James Cameron's Avatar is on the edge of making history yet again; the sci-fi hit went beyond all opportunity and reached the $1 billion milestone worldwide in just three weeks.
Movie experts anticipated Avatar did forecast the $1 billion mark, but definitely not in just three weeks. Avatar has rushed past the biggest hit of 2009, Harry Potter and Half-Blood Prince, which grossed about $930 million worldwide.
With the subsidiary incomes from Blu-ray Discs and DVDs, TV and cable TV, Avatar is anticipated to rake in over $600 million in profits. Avatar is also predictable to get major Oscar nominations in most categories, including technical departments.
Avatar now ranks number four among the top global grosser of all time, behind Cameron's Titanic ($1.84 billion), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1.12 billion) and The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($1.07 billion).
