Annapurna Studios, which is owned by the family of hero Akkineni Nagarjuna, plans to transfer the 22-acre premises into an international entertainment and media centre. The studio management has also functional to the government seeking waiver of height limitations for constructing 30 meter high buildings. Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department sources said the letter rejecting authorization was sent to Annapurna Studios on December 29. Y Surender, on behalf of the studios, had submitted plans to the GHMC for permission on December 22.
Prior, responding to their appeal for an NOC, AAI deputy general manager (ATC) (NOC) P Hema Malini wrote a letter stating that authorization could not be granted for construction of 30-metre-high buildings as the site (survey no 403 (part) new survey no 120 of Shaikpet village) was at a higher height. “As per the building rules, commercial buildings above 15 metres need a compulsory NOC from AAI. Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills are special regulation zones. Since AAI rejected permission, they (Annapurna Studios) have no choice but to go for buildings up to 15 metres only,” a senior MA&UD official said.
Annapurna Studios Pvt Ltd, located on Road No. 2, Jubilee Hills, on July 6, 2009 wanted height relaxations for their anticipated international media centre where they recommend constructing buildings in the height range of 16.5 and 30 metres. Annapurna Studios said the entertainment centre once commissioned would be leased out to production companies for making films and TV programmes. It said that post-production facilities like editing and dubbing would be offered at the proposed media centre.
